Surgical First Assistant – Physician Assistant (Operating Room)

As the Surgical First Assistant, you will partner with renowned surgical practices to optimize surgical performance and deliver exceptional patient care. In this role you will be responsible strictly to perform first assistants’ duties in the operating room; you will not partake in clinical duties, hospital rounding or any kind of pre-op or post-op work. Responsibilities include: Review all surgical patient’s surgical consent forms, history and physical prior to scrubbing if they are available, Prep and drape surgical patients as needed and as requested by the Attending Surgeon; Assist in surgery; Close incision lines as requested by Attending Surgeon; Tie superficial intra-operative sutures; Perform intra-operative stapling as directed by the Attending Surgeon; Administer local infiltrative anesthetic upon the request of the Attending Surgeon; Irrigate wounds and incision as directed by the Attending Surgeon; Participate in emergency resuscitation and stabilization if needed.

To qualify for the Surgical First Assistant, you must have a passion, a drive and enjoy working in the hospital surgery room. Valid State License in one of the following: PA-C, MD, DO, ARNP; Valid NCCPA Certification (if applicable); Minimum 3 years of recent multi-specialty surgical first assist experience or equivalent; Must have Proficient experience and skills assisting with at least half of the following fields: General, Vascular, Cardio-Thoracic, OB/GYN, Urology. Exams may also include Pre-Employment History and Physicals, on the job injuries (workman's compensation cases), TB skin testing and screening, influenza (Seasonal), Agent Orange/Gulf War/OEF/OIF exams as assigned. Services shall be provided 40 hours per week during regular working hours with the exception of federal holidays. Regular working hours are from 8 AM until 4:30 PM, with a 30- minute lunch break. Must be BLS certified.

Urgent Care Physician - West Texas

This West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) Medical Center in Big Spring, TX seeks the services of an Urgent Care Physician, for a period of 3 months with option to extend for an additional 3 months. The Physician to perform the services MUST be board certified/board eligible in internal medicine, family practice or emergency medicine. The WTVAHCS is a rural access hospital and LT physician is primarily assigned to work in Urgent Care which is considered a level 3. The number of patients seen in Urgent Care during a 24 hour period varies from shift to shift and from day to day. During the day shift (Monday 7am-3:30, Tuesday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm) we see an average of 15 patients. There is also an evening shift (2pm – 10pm) but it is most likely and ideal that the Physician will cover the day shift, however that is not always guaranteed. After 4:30pm Monday through Friday and on weekends, the Physician will be the first provider to be called for any acute issues on patients who are hospitalized in acute care beds, monitored care unit or community living center, but these calls are very rare.
